  • The constant pressure and friction can lead to painful skin irritation and lesions that you can’t see.
  • They affect movement.
  • Mats between paw pads or in armpits can restrict motion and alter your dog’s natural gait, leading to long-term posture or mobility issues.
  • They are painful.
  • Beyond the surface, mats restrict blood circulation. When they’re finally removed, blood can rush back into the area, sometimes causing bruising or hematomas.

  • Brushing takes significant time   Working through mats safely extends the grooming session, increasing both the time and cost of the appointment.
  • Brushing still damages the coat   Even with proper tools and technique, the hair shaft often becomes weakened or breaks during detangling.
  • Cutting mats out is dangerous   Without professional training, it’s extremely easy to cut the skin. It also leaves uneven holes in the coat.
  • Clipping requires a very short cut   To safely get under a mat, groomers must clip close to the skin — often ¼ inch or less. This can be stressful for the dog and time‑consuming for the groomer.
  • Matted dogs arrive already stressed   Mats pull, pinch, and hurt. By the time a matted dog arrives for grooming, they’re often anxious, uncomfortable, and less tolerant of handling.

  • Routine brushing, proper tools, and consistent professional grooming keep your dog comfortable, healthy, and looking their best.
  • If your dog is already matted, don’t wait — schedule a professional grooming appointment as soon as possible.
  • Mats only worsen over time, making removal more difficult and more uncomfortable for your pet.
  • Keeping your fur baby in mind, it's important to maintain regular grooming services.
  • Finally, regular grooming ensures their comfort, safety, and over all happiness.

The world would be a nicer place if everyone had the ability to love as unconditionally as a dog.
